The power of the Capitol
We are really shocked about the situation in which the inhabitants of Panem have to live. They are poor, they almost don't have enough food, they have to obey the Capitol rules as if they were slaves. To top it all, they have to send their children to the Hunger Games and watch them die. How can this be possible in a society that is supposed to be futurist? It would seem that they live in the Antiquity if they did not mention anything about technological devices.
We think that the Capitol has become what it is in the book because people permitted it after the great war mentioned by Katniss. In a democracy, people are the ones who decide what kind of politics they want, what kind of govern they expect, and if they are not satisfied, they can re-elect their politics. So, after the great war, people should have decided what to do, and not let the Capitol decide for them. However, we also think that a dictatorial govern can't last too much, and that people will start a rebellion sooner or later.
